TRI-CITIES ARE NOW CALLED 'RATTLESNAKE SHAKEDOWN'. THIS TOURNAMENT IS A CASH REWARD TOURNAMENT FOR TEAMS THAT ADVANCE INTO IT. IT IS ALSO THE FIRST STEP FOR TEAMS SEEKING TO EARN A SPOT TO THE APA NATIONAL 8 BALL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LAS VEGAS. RULES USED AT THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN LAS VEGAS WILL BE USED IN THIS TOURNAMENT.

The Rattlesnake Shakedown is held 3 times a year, at the end of each of the three sessions (Summer, Fall, and Spring). 6 teams from each session advance to the Cities tournament that is held once a year at the end of the Spring Session. Those 18 teams will compete for 3 slots to the APA 8 ball National Team Championships in Las Vegas. APA Phoenix Metro will provide rooms, entry fees, and $750 cash spending money to the teams that advance to the Nationals. There is also a cash payout based on your teams performance in this tournament.

At the end of each session there are 24 slots available for teams to participate in the Tri-Cities tournament for that session. Each division will receive 3 slots, the first one going to the team with the highest points at the end of regular session play and the second 2 slots will go to the teams winning the playoff week. After each division receives their 3 slots, any remaining slots will be filled at the discretion of the League Operators.

The next event will be held on Sept 10th & 11th, 2022 at Main Street Billiards, 1749 W Main St, Mesa, AZ 85201 (480) 969-7898.  Driving Directions

Doors open for practice at 8:00 AM, There will be a Players Orientation Meeting at 8:30 AM both days. Everyone is asked to be present. Tournament starts at 9:00 AM.

The following is an example of the board we are using!

We will run three boards like the one above. Two on Saturday and one on Sunday. 24 different teams will play on the two days, 16 teams on Saturday and 8 teams on Sunday, meaning your team will only have to play on one day. All teams must preregister and pay green fees in advance. Each team can choose a day to play (Saturday or Sunday) as long as those days are available. Teams winning first at the end of session will choose their day first. The office will send out a registration form the first week of playoffs to teams that are qualified to play. Days to play will be assigned in the order these forms are returned to the office. If your registration form is not returned, we will assume you are not coming and your slot will be given to the next team in line.

We have allowed 3 hrs 45 min for each match. At the beginning of each match, you will have 2 tables available.

To compete in the  Tri-Cities event, players must have a minimum of 4 plays with their team in the qualifying session, and have an APA lifetime of at least 6 Plays.

Time guidelines in your manual will be adhered to in an effort to keep the matches on schedule. Everyone  will have 1 timeout, no matter what your skill level. Timeouts are 1 minute.  If your coach calls a time out, you will be charged a time out whether you take it or not. Your average shot should not take more than 20 seconds. An unusual shooting situation should not take more than 45 seconds. Please stick to these guidelines. If your opponent complains, you may be put on a timer for the rest of your match. Opponents, keep in mind, 20 seconds is longer than it seems. Give your opponent enough time to execute their shot. These time limits are an average. One shot may take 30 seconds, the next one may only take 10 seconds. Please use common sense and remember, none of us want to be at this event any longer than necessary. When your match starts, please make sure you are ready to play. Start your smoke break early and be back in time to play. Putting up a player should take about 2 minutes, and he/she should be ready to lag immediately.

At the National Level, APA is very strict with their Skill Level policy. They will scrutinize each player to make sure they have enough plays with their team and with the APA. Team Captains, please make sure your players have had at least 4 plays with your team, and at least 6 plays in the last 2 years (20 plays for the previously qualified teams).   It is the responsibility of the Team Captains to know the eligibility of their team and team members. Just because you win at this event, does not mean APA will let you play when you get to Nationals. All the rules for eligibility are talked about starting on page 81 of your "Official Team Manual".

We want everyone to have a good time and if we all adhere to the guidelines and are courteous to each other, this should be a fun weekend.
